Dear Readers,
I am honored to be introducing myself as a new Junior Editorial Assistant at the JPE.
I have long been fascinated by the relationship between reason and emotion, and I find their entanglement to be radically profound. The philosophy of emotion explores these two foundational concepts—traditionally (mis)understood in contradiction with one another—in ways that reorient how we think about our feelings and how we feel about our thoughts. Such a pursuit challenges deep-seated assumptions about cognition and the human condition, igniting the curiosity that has fueled my academic and artistic trajectories thus far.
I hold a B.A. in the Humanities, Philosophy, and Jewish Thought from Shalem College, and an M.A. in Philosophy from Tel Aviv University. My graduate studies focused on the junction between philosophy, literature, and psychoanalysis, culminating in a thesis on the ethics and aesthetics of Susan Sontag under the supervision of Dr. Anat Matar. While my academic background is rooted in continental philosophy, I am a firm believer in the pluralistic and interdisciplinary discourse that defines the field of philosophy of emotion and the JPE in particular.
Beyond academia, I apply my education as a writer and a filmmaker, and I am currently in post-production on my first feature-length documentary exploring themes of trauma, home, and hope. It has been a privilege to

pursue my art alongside my education. I find that these divergent modes of inquiry and expression inform, complement, and challenge one another, and I hope to continue working within the unavoidable gap between them.
At this destabilizing time in human history, when our axiological paradigms are shifting once again, the work being done at the Journal of Philosophy of Emotion feels more meaningful and necessary than ever. I look forward to supporting our team and contributors, and I am eager to engage in the symposium of rigorous, respectful debate that distinguishes this publication.
Warmly,
Ezra Ani (he/him)
